Visual Ephemeris is a tool for viewing the physical aspects of planetary bodies orbiting the Sun as seen from a specific location, at a specific date and time for a certain period in the past or in the near future. These physical aspects are their geometric distances from the center of the Sun, their apparent positions as viewed from the observer’s location, and their brightness measured in apparent magnitudes. Visual Ephemeris is a free (GNU General Public License), Java-based tool (80MB) which enables to perform calculations and display the physical aspects of the planets found in the Solar System as they might be seen through a telescope from an ecliptical, equatorial or horizontal point of view.
Visual Ephemeris has become a versatile tool for discovering astronomy in the classroom. It would be useful for any course related to astronomy.

Version 7.6.1 is the first version which contains, thanks to the power of the Internet, the most sophisticated planets updating algorithm available (up to date with JPL Horizons).
